The Pre-Fall collection is inspired by The Americans by Robert Frank, a series of photographs which explored 1950s American life from an outsiders’ perspective. There is a winsome quality to the subjects - they often look isolated, whether physically or emotionally, and some are visibly out of place with their surroundings. Yet there is an underlying grit in so many of the images - quiet determination and moments of joy breaking though everyday life. Taking cues from the “outsiders” of recent generations, the collection features utility and grunge elements crashed into luxe materials like sequin and floral jacquard. A classic poplin shirt dress is oversized and can be adjusted with eyelets and lacing, a workwear jacket is rendered in wool tweed and covered in studs, and sequin dresses are artfully draped and finished with with chunky silver hardware and leather straps.
